On a thoroughly entertaining Friday evening, in a game played in great spirit, our U15's where triumphant in the U15 Yorkshire ECB Final qualifier.

Doncaster scored 75 - 6 in 20 overs with all Zingari's bowlers bowling extremely well.
Will Storr taking 3 wickets, Matthew Cawley 2 wickets and a run out by captain Sam Elstone who then along with Tom Douglas opened for Zingari. Both showed a masterclass in batting and why they play for Yorkshire as after 9.1 overs Zingari completed a ten wicket win scoring 77-0. We now have to travel away in the semi final.
An outstanding performance from the whole team. The game was played in a great spirit and both teams were a credit to their clubs.

The side have now won through to the next stage to be played at Hunslet Nelson CC on Sunday 24th June. We play in the 2nd semi final vs Middlesborough CC at 1pm.

Good luck to all the lads!

Hull Zingari Support Ceylon Cricket Foundation

The club has kindly donated kit to the Ceylon Cricket Foundation to help them grow the game and provide opportunities for youngsters in Sri Lanka to take up the sport in less fortunate areas.

In the photos and videos section is a picture of our junior member Tom Douglas,  Tom is pictured with Thairindu from the Ceylon Cricket Foundation handing over the kit himself.

Junior Match Reports

Monday 7th May

On a much warmer night than last week although the match ended in rain Zingari won the toss and batted. Sam Elstone and Tom Douglas opened the batting and by the third over Tom was retiring on 31. Sam was joined by Ankit Chawla and both put on a big partnership before Sam retired on 32 and then Ankit retired on 33. At the end Matt Cawley, Taylor Wallace, Will Storr, Tom Powdrell and Vinush Jeyendran were trying to score runs quickly and after the 20 overs Zingari finished on 131-4. Beverley were always up against it in the run chase and Will Storr quickly had one of the openers caught. A good second wicket partnership ended when Taylor Wallace took a good catch off of Peter Kilvert's bowling. Further wickets for Sam Elstone (2), Taylor Wallace, Tom Powdrell and a second for Will Storr in the last over resulted in Beverley being 74 - 7 at the close. A lovely game played in friendly competitive spirit.

Monday 30th April

The U15's travelled to Welton on a freezing cold night. Due to the conditions we decided to play 16 overs and not 20. Sam Elstone won the toss and elected to bowl. In their 16 overs Welton scored 53-8 with Jack Steele retiring on 32. For Zingari there were wickets for Tom JEFFERS, Sam Elstone, Will Sharpe and two wickets each for Ankit Chawla and Tom Powdrell. In reply we made 54-1 in 12.3 overs with Ankit ending on 25 no and Sam Elstone 10 n.o. Congratulations goes to both teams for playing the game in arctic conditions

Senior Match Reports 28th April

Due to the exceptionally poor weather experienced lately, the 1sts season got off to a damp squib with the unfortunate postponement of the opening fixture at home to Driffield 2's. The 2nds where a little more fortunate, playing across the road at YPI as part of the newly merged Hull & Zingari set up they managed to get part of a game in against Patrington in the YDSCL Division 2. We batted first and scored 200-8 in our allotted 45 overs, notable performances coming from Loz Wilkinson (64) and 15 year old Nathan Johnson (52 not out). In reply Patrington where 50 for 2 off 18 overs when the rain returned, Gav Wilkinson collecting both wickets in a miserly spell of 2 for 18 in 9 overs. This was a disappointing finish given our strong position in the game, however it was a pleasing performance for the 1st game of the season.

Over the weekend the 3rds and 4ths both travelled to Driffield and unfortunately came out on the end of the wrong result both times. Being bowled out for 58 (!) on Saturday and then managing a slightly better 63 (!) on Sunday its fair to say both sides are pleased to not have to see that ground again this season! However its very early days with many players having not netted over the winter, so with some good weather and luck we are confident performances will improve over the coming weeks.

Hull & Zingari Cricket Club

Pre-season Report 2018.

2018 has brought an historic change to our Cricket Club. After major discussions over the past months it was agreed that Zingari and Hull will merge as one club for the 2018 season and beyond and be known as Hull & Zingari C.C.

This became a necessity due to inconsistent availability and the amalgamation will benefit everyone

by ensuring strong competitive cricket for the Hull area in future years.

The weather over the past several weeks has been truly terrible with torrential rain regularly flooding the ground, and as a result ground preparations have hardly started. This year we have been fortunate to aquire the services of Aaron Tong who will be our new Head Groundsman after the retirement last year of Barry Seargent.

The majority of York Senior league clubs have been affected, and as a result the league programme has been put back for one week. This means our First X’s home fixture on the 21st of April against Whitkirk will now be played on August Bank Holiday. This means our first home game at Chanterlands Avenue will be on April 28th against Driffield C.C.

Indoor Nets which this year were held on the same night for juniors and seniors in the Hymers College Sports Hall have been well attended. As usual when the weather improves we will be netting outside for juniors and seniors.

Come April we will need club volunteers to help with our pre-season clean up, to paint fences, clean out sheds etc.

This season we will be fielding 3 Saturday League teams and 1 Sunday team , plus our Junior XI,s.

The 1st XI will be playing in the York Senior Premier Division after our excellent promotion from Division 1 last year. Alastair Markham will lead the First XI and is the Club Captain.

The An XI will be captained by Simon Powdrill.  Simon will lead the side in the  Holderness Division 2  of the York Senior League. The (3rd XI) will play in the Holderness Division 3 a Captain to be confirmed. The 4th XI will play all their fixtures on a Sunday and are in the Eastern Conference Division 3, a Captain to be confirmed.

The 1st, 2nd and 4th XI’s will all play their home games at Chanterlands Avenue. The 3rd XI will play their home fixtures at YPI.

The Junior Team Managers will be ably assisted by Steve Bunn. This year the junior section will field  1  U9 team,1 U11 team, 2 U13 teams and 1 U15 team.

We are delighted to welcome new players to the Club for this coming season. This will strengthen all teams and we wish all new members a happy and enjoyable stay with us.

Regular availability is always crucial to a teams success so can I make my usual plea by asking all players to make every effort to play as regular as possible, as it makes the job for captains and team managers so much easier.

Financial considerations are always uppermost in everyone’s mind, but if membership capitations can be paid as early as possible it will be a great help. Can I also remind all players that parents or friends who regularly use the facilities during the season that all must pay the ARC Subscription fee. Your co-operation will be appreciated.

We are most grateful to volunteers who are organising initiatives to generate fund raising monies and to attract sponsors. These initiatives deserve all our support so please make every effort to attend any fundraising occasions held at the club.

We held our Annual  Pre-Season Dinner this year at the Hull Golf Club on Friday April 13th , and we had another very pleasant evening  enjoyed by players and guests. The club’s grateful thanks are again extended to our President Rodger Booth and Chairman Trevor Markham whose considerable efforts organised the evening.

The Fixture Cards for senior  games have been issued to the captains. Anyone wishing a Fixture Card please see the Secretary

This is a great game so we would all wish for an enjoyable, incident free season this year, so your President, Chairman and the General Cricket Committee would like to remind all players and supporters of the club that :-

The Spirit of the Game involves RESPECT for :-

Your opponents

Your own captain and team

The role of the umpires

The game and its tradition and values

Have a good season and enjoy your cricket.

Secretary’s Report for Season 2017

Our Club in the main had a very successful 2017 season. We welcomed several new players to the club at the start of the season all of whom performed and fitted into all the teams very well. There were league titles won, junior cups, and a 6 a side competition win, but the highlight of them all was the First XIs promotion and immediate return to the Premier League after last seasons relegation.

The first team led by Club Captain Alastair Markham impressively topped the table all season and finished 66 points clear of second placed Folkton and Flixton. There were some close exciting finishes during the season and some excellent individual performances from the players. The season was a real squad effort as everyone contributed in games at vital times during the season.

Worthy of special mention was Jack Storey’s statistics. Jack made over 1100 runs which included 3 centuries a 97 and 85, he was also our leading wicket taker with 44 wickets. Other outstanding century makers were Guy Martinson 117no and Matthew Bunn 115no.

The seasons last home match was fittingly celebrated at the club when everyone enjoyed an excellent Hog Roast evening hosted by our President Rodger Booth.

Our 2nd  XI were unfortunately relegated from Division 2. Simon Powdrill had to resign the captaincy mid-season, and we were very lucky and indebted to Thomas Elstone who on his summer break agreed to captain for the remainder of the season. Tom had a rough baptism due to weak availability and his 2 opening bowlers playing the majority of games in the First XI. However to everyone’s credit we fulfilled all the fixtures and we hope for better results in 2018.

The 3rd XI under Captain Jason Kemp had an excellent season and won their league. They headed the table all season and clinched the title in the final match of the season. All the games in this league are played on a Sunday and this greatly helps our availability, the team has a good balance of seniors and juniors, games are played in a good spirit and seems to be enjoyed by everyone.

We had some social games at the club, we celebrated our past friends and colleagues with our Annual Memorial game in memory of John Mowbray, Alan Obridge and John Batty. Past players brought their gear out of mothballs and the day was  enjoyed by everyone who attended. We also had a Junior Festival Sunday with an U9 Competition in the morning followed with a Dad’s v Lads game in the afternoon.

Our Junior Section continues to thrive and be successful and we have some exciting, promising and very enthusiastic young cricketers in all the teams.

Our U13s won a junior cup and also the Indoor Junior League, other age groups did well and were competive in their respective competitions.

Many thanks for another junior initiative The Junior All Stars. There were regularly up to 20 U9’s all excellently being coached by Roger Wilson, Simon Powdrill and Mike Ulyatt on Sunday mornings at the club.

A number of our older juniors have regularly appeared in our senior teams on a Saturday which bodes well for the future.

Once again we extend our sincere thanks to Steve Bunn for his massive work in organising  the 3rd XI and junior teams, it is greatly appreciated by all at the club and all the parents.

The Cricket Committee would also like to thank our captains, players and members for their help and support. Our sincere thanks also to our sponsors and our President Rodger Booth and his Vice President contacts. These generous donations enable us to continue as a successful cricket club.

I could not end this report without paying personel tribute to all of the people who do the work behind the scenes. I cannot do a complete list, so if your name is not here you are still highly regarded. My thanks to :- Our President/Treasurer, Chairman, and Committee members. The team captains, managers, coaches. Our groundstaff. To parents, carers grandparents and team members who unselfishly give lifts. Match ball sponsors, Mike Ulyatt for our media coverage and fundraising and Matt Bramall for our excellent website. Last but not least our scorers and umpires

Many thanks to you all
